Relationship Goals

How can you strengthen and refresh your marriage this year?

Give to each other- humbly, patiently, and generously. Focus on your part in your marriage- what you can do better and where you can show up for your spouse.

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowances for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” Ephesians 4:2-3

Obey the Lord as this comes first for the believer in all things. Our relationship with our Father is the foundation for all of our earthly relationships, especially our marriage. How are you deepening your faith as an individual and as a couple?

As the scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.” Ephesians 5:31-32

Apologize and forgive each other, seventy times and more… focus on your part in a disagreement and seek to listen to and understand your spouse. Be open-minded and kind to your spouse. Remember the heart of your partner and the forgiveness you’ve already received from God.

“Make allowances for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:13-14

Love each other without limitation. How much does Jesus love you and how many ways has He shown that love? How then can we attempt to love our spouse any less?

“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” John 13:34

Serve your spouse with joy and blessing and make them, and your marriage, first in your life. Do not keep score, but instead try to be more like Jesus and demonstrate endless grace.

“The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matthew 23:11-12
